Mizel Jewish Community Day School, the only Jewish Day School in Oklahoma, offers a unique Jewish setting in which preschool – fifth grade students are immersed in an environment of secular and Hebrew language study. In addition to connecting to texts and traditions of Judaism, the students gain a strong foundation in mathematics, science, social studies and the arts. Our approach uses learning that is deeply grounded in Jewish traditions and universal Jewish values, so that both our Jewish and non-Jewish students learn to live more purposeful and rewarding lives and help shape and contribute to a better world.
Our professional, highly experienced staff works closely with our Judaic instructor to reinforce Jewish customs in their classrooms as they teach a variety of curricular subjects with an adult/student ratio of approximately eight to one.
Students are able to interact frequently with residents in the Tulsa Jewish Retirement and Health Center on the Zarrow campus, developing sensitivity and patience by reading to them and sharing monthly Kabbalat Shabbat services and special holiday events. Leadership is developed in the early years as students present programs to their peers and parents at monthly, all school Kabbalat Shabbat services, biweekly Tefillah services, and at other celebratory events throughout the year.
The Mizel School technology program engages and motivates student exploration and technologic proficiency by utilizing best practices with OSX Mac Minis, iPads, and Smart Boards for prekindergarten – fifth grade students. Extensive writing opportunities contribute to excellent written expression and creativity. Art, music, and physical education specialists offer weekly classes to enrich and develop student talents and contribute to their well-rounded education. Unique programs at the adjacent Sherwin Miller Museum of Jewish Art and field trips also augment the curriculum.
Our school mission, “repairing and caring for the world,” and nurturing environment, all contribute to academic excellence, building character, and self-esteem. Our graduates excel in their middle and high school programs and are accepted to highly regarded universities. Upon graduation, they have become leaders in the business world, accountants, lawyers, rabbis, doctors and teachers. We are also very fortunate to have our families, Board of Trustees, Heritage Academy Foundation, community foundations and the Tulsa Jewish Federation support our efforts.
