Thanks to the tireless efforts of parents and grandparents, Mizel JCDS PTO can offer enriching events that bring the school together and benefit the students. The Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is a great way to get involved and feel connected to the school families, faculty and staff. The PTO encourages family involvement and volunteerism to promote educational programs, financial welfare through fundraising projects and service to the school.
PTO’s fundraising aids in keeping tuition at a more affordable level, as well as purchasing items not covered by tuition income. The Annual Scholastic Book Fair earns money to purchase books and other materials for the library and classrooms. The Book Fair also allows parents and friends of the school to either purchase materials for themselves or to donate books/materials to Mizel JCDS.
Through the PTO, the faculty and staff are honored with a week of Teacher Appreciation activities. Other volunteer opportunities allow parents to help teachers in their classrooms and assist in the school office with projects when needed. Parents can join students as chaperones on field trips and assist in holiday programs.
PTO meetings and gatherings provide parents the time to relax and get to know other parents. Planning events and projects take advantage of the skills and experience parents bring to Mizel JCDS that promote the school in terms of recruitment and marketing the school throughout the community.

Todd and his brother Scott were in the inaugural class of Heritage Academy. Todd attended through 4th grade. Being at Heritage connected Todd to the Jewish kids throughout Tulsa, and they stayed in contact through confirmation, trip to Israel and BBYO. After graduating with a BA in Advertising from Marshall University and meeting his soon to be wife, Mary, Todd moved back to Tulsa and worked in logistics before starting Craters & Freighters in 1999 with his father, Rick. Congratulations to Mizel on 50 years of building community!

"Alex attended school at Heritage Academy from 2000 to 2005 with his younger sister, Rachael (pictured). After earning his Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Oklahoma and then his Master’s degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology in Chicago, he moved back to Tulsa, married his amazing wife, Nina (pictured) last September, and now works as a Team Lead for HR Consultants at Paylocity. He’s excited to celebrate 50 years of the school that helped instill a strong sense of Jewish identity in his life."

Through art projects that celebrate and tell the stories of Jewish traditions, values, and holidays, our students connect deeply with their heritage and creativity.
One of the highlights of Mizel’s collaboration with the Sherwin Miller Museum of Jewish Art is seeing student artwork displayed in the Sharna Newman Frank Education Gallery. It’s an incredible honor for our students to share their creations alongside those of other young artists across Oklahoma. From art projects to listening to meaningful Jewish readings in the museum, this partnership beautifully enhances our children’s understanding of Jewish traditions, culture, and the arts.
